Local pet-related vendors, artisans, and businesses will be under one roof. There will be presentations from local veterinarians, a K-9 police dog, and dog trainers. Your chance to view and discuss our preliminary shelter plans with HSNEI representatives. Silent auction, bake sale, adoption fair, and youth Chain-Off event. A catered lunch will be available. Bring your friendly dog to meet us!

"This blog was set up on January 29, 2012, when four feral puppies were turned in to our organization. These four beautiful puppies have had no human contact during the first nine weeks of their life (except for people trying to catch them). It is our goal to work with them so that one day they may be adopted out to loving homes. This blog is a day to day account of their journey. Check back each day for their progress reports!"
This cutie pie is a littermate of Ambers and is 1 year old. She's definitly a
character and loves to "talk". Lots of personality in this girl! She's got a
great motor and she loves to just hang out with you while she purrs up a
storm. Tootsie enjoys lots of interaction and attention. She loves to sit on
your lap and get petted so she'll make a nice lap kitty too.
She's doing fine
with the dogs now that she's had a chance to get used to them. She has had all
her vet work done so is just waiting for her new home to come along.

Who is the Humane Society
of Northeast Iowa...
The Humane Society of Northeast Iowa (HSNEI), formerly People for Animal Welfare (PAW), is a
humane society founded in 1995, in Decorah, Iowa, to help abused, neglected, abondoned, and unwanted companion animals in the five-county area of Northest Iowa (Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, and Winneshiek counties). Since
our founding, we have offered numerous services including dog and cat rescue, fostering and adoption services, humane education, safety and family fun fairs, microchipping for pet identification, financial assistance in spaying/neutering and pet referral services.
Our rescue and adoption program provides temporary foster homes for unwanted and abandoned animals in private homes
in the region and
provides a Website to help in finding adoptive homes for these animals. (www.lowapaw.petfinder.com) Through cooperative arrangements with shelters in Dubuque, Iowa; Onalaska, Wisconsin; and Minneapolis, Minnesota; our volunteers assist in transferring animals to other geographic regions when homes are not available here.
Although there has always been more need than we have been able to meet in our foster program, the situation has become critical. Our volunteers receive more than 50 calls per week requesting help with animals that have been abandoned or surrendered. There are not enough volunteers of foster homes to handle the volume. We are therefore turning to you, the wider community, for support to build an animal shelter for this multi-county region.
